Republican Liberty Caucus Endorses Ed Harris
Conservative Republican Group Endorses Former Primary Winner in District 3 Race
GREENVILLE, SC, May 20, 2014- The Republican Liberty Caucus State Board announced Tuesday that it unanimously voted to endorse Ed Harris in the Republican Primary for South Carolina House District Three. They joined previous decisions by SC Club for Growth and Congressman Jeff Duncan.
According to Mr. Joshua Cook, Acting State Chairman, “Ed Harris has a strong grasp of the principles of liberty and has the fortitude to bring reform to our State House. Harris’ experience as a proven business leader and his strong convictions of advancing free market solutions and limited government will make him a great leader in Columbia. Ed will fight for small businesses that are being strangled by regulations and will fight for the taxpayer and working families of South Carolina”
“As a member of the SC Labor Reform Committee and the Economic Development Board of Pickens County, Mr. Harris is already working to make South Carolina a better place to do business,” said Mike Wallace, RLCSC Treasurer. “With a commitment from him to reduce, or eliminate, the state income tax; I expect to see him advance even greater pro-market reforms once he reaches the State House.”
Mr. Harris is running to replace retiring Representative B.R. Skelton. In 2012, Harris survived multiple ballot challenges to go on to defeat Skelton, in the primary. The outcome was later discarded by State GOP Chairman Chad Connelly, at the threat of further lawsuits, by Mr. Skelton.
Mr. Harris is a native of SC, a lifelong Republican, and a decorated combat veteran of the Vietnam War. He and his wife of forty-seven years, Ann, are residents of Clemson, since 1971. Over the years, Mr. Harris founded and ran a number of successful businesses in Oconee and Pickens County. He is a member of the Disabled Americans Association, Veterans of Foreign Wars, National Rifle Association, Clemson Rotary, and Clemson Presbyterian Church.
The primary is June 10th. The winner will advance to face Libertarian Travis McCurry, in November.
